Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) spokesperson, Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, said they are currently not monitoring any illegal activities among their personnel.
This comes after Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Benjamin Acorda, Jr. revealed that around 3,000 PNP personnel are currently either under monitoring or already facing charges for alleged involvement in illegal activities.
According to Catalogo, for the first quarter of this year, they did not receive any complaints from the public regarding police “scalawags.”
However, Catalogo said this is based on their monitoring only and does not include intelligence reports from the PNP’s Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group, which is responsible for internal cleansing within the PNP, primarily targeting erring cops.
The NOCPPO spokesperson added that they are constantly reminding their personnel not to get involved in illegal activities.
According to a statement made by Acorda on Tuesday, May 9, the PNP is already building up a case against the 3,000 scalawag cops, mostly involved in illegal drugs and extortion.
However, Acorda said the 3,000 erring cops is “very minimal,” although he ordered all police commanders to intensify their counter-intelligence operations.
The PNP chief has also encouraged the public to report any police personnel involved in illegal activities./DGB, WDJ
