Taltal sa Cadiz returns after a three-year hiatus brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, Negros Occidental’s Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr. confirmed.

“Taltal” or “Senakulo,” which reenacts the Passion of Jesus Christ, is held during Good Friday.

Escalante said they have made some changes for the safety and health of the actors in the play.

He recalled that in one Taltal event a few years ago, the actor who played Jesus Christ fainted due to heat exhaustion.

The play is usually held at the Cadiz City Public Plaza.

Escalante said they have decided to hold the Taltal at the Cadiz City Arena, where actors and the viewers will be sheltered from the heat, as the arena is fully air-conditioned.

Preparations are also now underway, with Escalante saying they hired national talents to train their local actors for the event.

“Kadako na sang gasto ta, why not add a little more to train our own [actors]. Maka-learn and maka-grow pa sila,” Escalante said./DGB, WDJ
