More than a thousand modified mufflers were destroyed in Negros Occidental’s San Carlos City yesterday morning.

After the flag-raising ceremony in front of the city hall, a road roller was used to flatten the illegal mufflers, leaving them unusable.

City police chief, Lt. Colonel Jesus Mesahon said the illegal mufflers were confiscated in January of 2022.

Mesahon added the city police force will continue to confiscate modified illegal mufflers in accordance with Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, and City Ordinance 16-11, which bans the use of mufflers that emit exceptionally loud noise.

Meanwhile, San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo said the government is just doing its part to run after noisy motorcycles with modified mufflers.

He also reminded government workers, especially parents, not to tolerate their children taking part in illegal motorcycle racing.

“Parents who tolerate their children for doing such [activity] are like pushing them into accidents,” Gustilo said./DGB, WDJ
