A reporter from a Cebu-based media outlet, covering the murder of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, was killed after the motorcycle she was riding was rammed by a truck in Negros Oriental’s Amlan town on Sunday afternoon, March 12.
Authorities identified the fatality as 23-year-old Pegeen Sararaña, a reporter from Cebu Daily News.
Police said Sararaña was on a motorcycle with her boyfriend Niel Ian Balcobero at the time of the accident.
The truck driven by 27-year-old Nielric Gaso was heading southbound towards Sibulan town.
Gaso tried to overtake another truck, but he accidentally rammed his truck into the motorcycle which was on standby to make a turn.
Sararaña was rushed to the Negros Polymedic Hospital in Dumaguete City, but she later passed away after sustaining multiple injuries to the head and body.
Balcobero did not suffer any injuries in the accident.
