A senior citizen died after being drowned while crossing a river at Barangay Magsaysay in Negros Occidental’s Cadiz City on Tuesday afternoon, February 14.

Authorities identified the fatality as 61-year-old Marciana Pabuaya, a resident of the said place.

Based on information gathered by the police, Pabuaya, along with her daughter, crossed the Idlang-gam River to get into their house.

However, both of them were caught in a downpour and the river suddenly swelled, causing them to be pulled by the strong current.

Pabuaya’s head was hit on a rock, causing her to lose consciousness.

Her daughter was unharmed.

It took at least an hour before rescuers retrieved Pabuaya’s remains./DGB, WDJ
