An alleged thief was wounded after he was mauled by an angry mob at Barangay 3 in Negros Occidental’s San Carlos City late Thursday night, February 9.

Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Philip Edison, a resident of Purok Malinawon in Toboso town’s Barangay Poblacion.

Based on information by the city police, Edison allegedly broke into the house of 48-year-old Jinky Tornes, carting away two laptops, two mobile phones, two power banks, and an extension wire, all valued at P55,000.

Tornes would immediately report the incident to police after discovering that her house had been burglarized.

When she, now accompanied by police, returned to her house, they saw several residents mauling Edison after he allegedly broke into another house as witnessed by a resident.

Police immediately stopped the angry mob and arrested Edison.

One of Tornes’ laptops was recovered from the suspect.

Edison is facing robbery charges and is currently detained at the police station./DGB, WDJ
