Only a few contrabands were seized after the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a “greyhound operation” or a shakedown at the Negros Occidental’s San Carlos City District Jail last Friday, January 20.

Jail Chief Inspector Felix Sariana, city district jail warden, said among the items they recovered are metal headbands, empty cans, and an improvised tong, which are prohibited inside the jail facility.

According to Sariana, the 398 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), including 41 women, were escorted out to an open space within the jail facility at around 5:00 a.m.

Authorities then searched the cell blocks for any contraband.

The inmates were allowed back into their respective cells after the search had been completed.

PDEA also performed a random drug test for 88 PDLs and 33 BJMP personnel. All of them have tested negative for drug use./DGB, WDJ
