A cop, wanted for multiple criminal charges, was arrested by operatives from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) in the city’s Barangay 35.
Police identified the arrested as 33-year-old Glenn Garbosa, previously assigned to Iloilo.
Police Major Richard Fajarito, BCPO Station 10 commander, said Garbosa has a pending warrant of arrest for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and robbery with extortion.
The warrant was issued by Iloilo City Regional Trial Court Branch 37.
The charges stemmed from 2017, when Garbosa was caught in an entrapment operation for allegedly extorting a large sum of money from a retired teacher in Iloilo City’s Jaro district.
Based on the records, he went to the house of 65-year-old Rey Fajutrao, and introduced himself as an intelligence officer from the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas.
Garbosa allegedly threatened to arrest the victim for an expired firearms license and offered to renew the license for some cash.
However, Fajutrao then gave him P37,000 for a license renewal.
A day later, the suspect returned to the victim’s house and asked for P40,000.
On April 30 of that year, the cop allegedly demanded another P40,000, supposedly for the processing of the license.
On May 1, Garbosa again asked Fajutrao for P10,000 for his fare to Manila. The following day, he demanded P46,000 for document fingerprinting, and another P12,000 on May 4, supposedly for other documents.
The victim did not respond to the last demand made via text message, and reported the incident to the district police.
Garbosa is presently detained at Police Station 10 and is currently awaiting to be transferred to Iloilo City for trial./DGB, WDJ
