A security guard was killed after the motorcycle he was driving slammed into an oncoming tricycle and a Carry van along circumferential road in Bacolod City’s Barangay Alijis early yesterday morning.
Police identified the fatality as Louie Vergara, a security guard of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and resident of Barangay Handumanan also in the said city.
Traffic investigators from Police Station 7 revealed that the tricycle driven by 23-year-old John Alipoon Dayday and the Carry van driven by 42-year-old Warren Blance were both heading south along the circumferential road.
Dayday tried to overtake Blance causing him to slam into Vergara’s motorcycle which was heading north.
Vergara was subsequently thrown from his motorcycle following the impact and he was run over by Blance’s van.
Vergara was dead-on-the-spot due to the injuries he sustained from the accident.
Both Dayday and Blance later surrendered to police, with Dayday also suffering minor injuries due to the head-on collision.
Both drivers could also face vehicular manslaughter charges over the incident./DGB, WDJ
