The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) yesterday noted a slight increase in the prices of eggs and meat products being sold in Negros Occidental.

Acting PVO head Place Lemana said the price of eggs had a slight increase, averaging 10-centavo increase per piece.

However, Lemana pointed out that the province has enough supply of eggs, and based on the weekly provincial prevailing market prices of livestock and poultry commodities as of August 8, 2022, there had also been an increase on the average price of meat and poultry products.

The price of carabao meat has increased by P1.38 per kilo, while beef has increased by as much as P2.00 per kilo.

Chiken, meanwhile, had a price hike of P0.54 per kilo.

Currently, the cities of Sagay and Escalante are reported to have the most expensive carabao meat being sold in the market at P340, while the lowest price was recorded at the town of Don Salvador Benedicto with a price tag of P195 per kilo.

Pork on the other hand are sold at high prices in San Carlos City, Silay City and Hinigaran town at P295 per kilo, and lowest in Moises Padilla, Toboso, Don Salvador Benedicto, Isabela, Kabankalan City, and Victorias City at P250 per kilo.

Lemana added that the high prices of feeds is still the main reason for the increase on meat prices./DGB, WDJ
