At least 95 percent of the houses in the town of Candoni in Negros Occidental were either damaged or destroyed following the onslaught of super typhoon “Odette.”
In a radio interview with Bombo Radyo-Bacolod yesterday morning, Nicholas Lachica, head of the Candoni Assistance Rescue and Emergency Services, appealed for urgent help pointing out that they are receiving very little attention compared to the other neighboring local government units.
According to Lachica, the town also suffered extensive flooding between Thursday night and early Friday morning, and at least one family in the town’s Sitio Guinobatan in Barangay Caningay was swept away by flood waters.
Three of the family members were later found alive, however, two others were not so lucky.
Lachica said majority of the local residents are still staying in the town’s evacuation centers./DGB, WDJ
