Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he will wait until next year before announcing who to support for president in the 2022 national elections.
November 15 was the deadline set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for withdrawal and substitution of candidates.
“Personally I don’t want to make the decision right away. I may wait until next year,” the governor said.
Earlier, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said that he and Lacson will meet with the 31 mayors in the province to consult with them as to who among the presidential candidates they would support in the upcoming 2022 national elections.
Despite the talks, Ferrer said they would still respect the decision of the local mayors who they would support.
Ferrer, meanwhile, said personally he would support any presidential candidate who will be able to introduce programs that benefit Negros Occidental.
The vice governor added that the key factor who they would support is someone “who will be able to revive the Negros Island Region once he or she steps into office.”/DGB, WDJ
