The commander of Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry “Spearhead” Division (3ID) conferred award to 16 Masaligan troopers in a simple ceremony held at 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB) Headquarters in Barangay Bato, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on October 1.
Major General Benedict Arevalo, assisted by 303rd Brigade commander Brigadier General Inocencio I. Pasaporte, pinned the award of Military Merit Medals with Bronze Spearhead Device to 16 Masaligan troopers for their gallantry and heroic acts during the encounter against 10 enemy personalities believed to be the remnants of the dismantled Northern Negros Front on September 30, 2021, which resulted to the neutralization of four rebels; war materials, and voluminous subversive documents of high intelligence value.
Arevalo lauded the Masaligan troopers under the leadership of commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel J-jay T. Javines for their commitment and dedication in protecting the Negrenses against the communist terrorist group in the area.
He also put emphasis on the morale and welfare of the troops and encouraged the 79IB troops to continue striving for excellence and high degree of professionalism in support of the local government units and other government agencies to attain just and lasting peace and development in Northern Negros.
For his part, Javines expressed his gratitude to Arevalo for recognizing the efforts of the troops./WDJ
