Iloilo remains undefeated in PCAP, Negros splits

Iloilo Kisela Knights is still undefeated after eight matches, as Negros Kingsmen suffered its first loss in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) San Miguel Corporation-Ayala Land Cup.

The Kisela Knights opened their Wednesday night double-header with a 16-5 domination over Iriga City Oragons before following it up with a 15.5-5.5 rout of Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors.

Iloilo stunned Iriga in blitz event with victories from Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 1), Fiona Guirhem (Board 3), Cesar Mariano (Board 4), John Michael Silvederio (Board 5), Fritz Bryan Porras (Board 6), and Mark Jossel Mariano (Board 7).

The Kisela Knights also owned the rapid event against the Oragons with Antonio, Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2), Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 3), Cesar Mariano, and Porras notching two points each.

Iloilo continued its rampage as it defeated Lapu-Lapu City in the blitz event via wins by Antonio, Cesar Mariano, Silvederio, Porras, and Mark Mariano and a deadlock from Mejia.

The Kisela Knights notched two pointers in rapid from Cesar Mariano, Silvederio, Porras, and Mark Jossel Mariano, while Antonio and Ochoa were forced by the Naki Warriors to draw.

The Kingsmen, on the other hand, could not sustain its winning run as it was defeated by Camarines Soaring Eagle in the first game before bouncing back in the second against Cebu City Machers, 14-7.

The Kingsmen started its game against the Soaring Eagle with a 4.5-2.5 win in blitz before the latter bounced back in rapid event to force an armaggedon of tiebreaker. Camarines ruled the armaggedon, 3-0, to take the win.

Negros, however, recovered against Cebu in blitz with a slim 4-3 victory courtesy of one points each from Nelson Mariano III (Board 1), Mari Joseph Turquiza (Board 2), Jenny Mayor (Board 4), and Rolzon Roullo (Board 7).

The Kingsmen also edged the Machers in the rapid game, 14-7, with Turquiza, Mayor, Adrian dela Cruz (Board 5), and Roullo notching two points each and Mariano and Thereus Benitez Jr. (Board 6) splitting points./ASC, WDJ
