The local government unit (LGU) of Sipalay City in Negros Occidental joined the observance of the International Coastal Clean-up yesterday at the city’s Barangay Nauhang.

This year’s international clean-up day is anchored on the theme, “Fighting for Trash-free Seas” that aims to give priority to ocean conservancy.
This is a way of educating people to create possible solutions regarding the long-standing problems in solid waste and litter in the local coastal areas through removing trash from beaches and waterways.
The clean-up drive was initiated in two coastal areas in Barangay Nauhang namely Purok Saka-saka and Purok Baguisan. Afterwards, the Environment and Natural Resources staff recorded the collected debris as part of the activity.
Upon checking and listing of debris, beverage bottles and cans have the highest record among the wastes. Straws, cups, cigarette lighters, and clothing followed.
The Community Affairs Office has also provided food for the activity.
Present during the activity were City Administrator Phillip G. Zamora; members of the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology; LGU employees; and Barangay Nauhang council and community development officers./WDJ
