Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office revealed yesterday that the vaccination program of the province has already reached 16 percent.
Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, explained that the low vaccination record of the province compared to other provinces is due to the lower COVID-19 cases here and that COVID-19 vaccines released to the province are also lesser.
However, Tumimbang said that the province has 100 percent full utilization of the vaccines that arrived in the province.
Meanwhile, Tumimbang said the surge in COVID-19 cases has been notable this month.
In the last 48 hours, Tumimbang said they monitored 248 cases from more than a hundred the previous day in the province.
He said they will determine at the end of this month if the cases would reach the highest number of cases in March this year that recorded 3,000 active cases.
“I hope we will not reach that high,” Tumimbang said.
He explained that the positivity rate is coming from the hospitals.
The provincial health officer also explained that as much as possible they are trying to avoid full bed utilization in COVID-19 designated hospitals to accommodate severe cases.
“What we’re doing is if the patient is already stable we transfer the patient to the quarantine facilities and those with severe condition are admitted to the hospital,” Tumimbang added./DGB, WDJ
