The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) yesterday issued a warning to all barangay officials and tanods in the region not to carry unlicensed firearms.
Newly-installed PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Lt. Colonel Arnel Solis, said all tanod members and barangay officials are not yet allowed to carry or possess homemade firearms especially outside their residences.
However, Solis affirmed that there is currently a proposal to arm civilian organizations, especially barangay tanods, although it has not yet been approved, and therefore anyone who will be caught using a firearm will be arrested.
Solis added that the barangay officials, tanod members, and civilians are allowed to possess a firearm, but they have to secure a license to own and possess firearms, firearms license, and the permit to carry firearms outside residence, all of which are requirements before they can own a firearm./DGB, WDJ
