Theft suspect shoots tanod in San Carlos

A barangay tanod was seriously wounded after he was shot while trying to respond to a theft incident at Sitio Kalimbuhan located in Barangay Quezon, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental late Wednesday night, August 25.

Police identified the victim as 57-year-old Cesario Villafuerte, a resident of the said barangay.

San Carlos City police deputy, Police Lt. Ruby Aurita, said Villafuerte along with his friend were responding to a theft incident at a local cock farm in the area when he was blocked by the suspect later identified as 23-year-old Benjamin Quirante.

Quirante then allegedly opened fire at Villafuerte using an unknown caliber of firearm, hitting him on the head.

The suspect immediately fled after the shooting, while Villafuerte was rushed to the San Carlos City Hospital for treatment.

Police are still investigating the incident./DGB, WDJ
