Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas along with several local chief executives and governors of Western Visayas held a Zoom meeting yesterday with Bacolod City Administrator Em Ang in order to seek for Bacolod City’s formula for sustaining the steady decline of COVID-19 cases.
According to Ang, who is also the executive director of the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force and coordinator of the COVID-19 Vaccination Council (CoVaC), the city government strengthened the compliance of minimum health protocols, monitoring of workplace such as BPOs, casinos and banks, and discouraged mass gatherings as well as implemented accelerated a combination of vaccination programs.
During the meeting, Treñas expressed his concern that the situation may be more challenging in the coming days, pointing out that they have sent 104 additional samples to the Department of Health for confirmation whether these are also positive for the more transmissible Delta COVID-19 variant.
“Let us ask Bacolod City and Negros Occidental why their cases are on the decline. Let us adopt what they are doing,” Treñas said.
Ang, who is representing Mayor Evelio Leonardia, explained that Bacolod City also recorded four cases of Delta variant infections but the patients have fully recovered.
The province of Negros Occidental also has a single case of the Lambda variant.
She further explained that about 37 percent of Bacolod’s qualified population for vaccination already received their first dose, while 22 percent had been fully vaccinated./DGB, WDJ
