Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo paid a visit to Negros Occidental on Sunday, August 22, and conducted a meeting with the province’s chief executives.
In a press conference held yesterday morning, Panelo said the province’s mayors have forwarded several requests which they needed in their respective local government units (LGUs).
According to Panelo, among the mayors’ requests are funding for farm-to-market roads, school buildings, additional classrooms, ambulances, and patrol cars.
He said the mayors have also forwarded the issue regarding fixed salaries for their respective barangay personnel.
On the other hand, Panelo said he found some problems regarding the mayors’ letters sent to the regional offices, wherein once the letters reached the regional offices it started to stall.
“Kasi ‘pag tinatawagan ko ‘yung mga department head nagugulat sila, mabuti sinabi mo bakit hindi dumating sa akin ‘yung letter,” Panelo said.
He blamed some of the regional directors for “sleeping on the job” which explains why some projects are getting delayed, and they are only addressed once the secretary of the office involved will give the regional directors a call.
Aside from the mayors of Negros Occidental, Panelo said he also met with 17 Iloilo and 17 Capiz mayors.
The mayors who have attended the meetings from the three provinces have all expressed their desire for the continuation of programs of the government./DGB, WDJ
