A man was shot to death while another one was wounded in a shooting incident at Barangay San Isidro in Negros Occidental’s Toboso town around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 15.
Police identified the fatality as 53-year-old Rex Gumban while 50-year-old Enrique Hilapon sustained a gunshot wound. Both are residents of the said village.
Toboso Police Station investigation revealed that the victims were riding a motorcycle when they were waylaid by unidentified suspects upon approaching the Andres Gumban National High School.
The bonnet-wearing suspects immediately shot the victims several times and fled, police said.
Gumban sustained gunshot wound on his head. He died on the spot. Hilapon, meanwhile, was hit on his right shoulder but he was able to run away. Residents brought him to the Toboso Municipal Health Office.
Toboso police recovered four empty shells of caliber .9mm pistol at the crime scene.
As of this writing, officers of the Toboso Police Station have yet to identify the suspects and the motive in the incident./WDJ
