Negrense rookie Jeffrey Manday is looking forward to getting his Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) career going after being signed as part of San Miguel Beermen’s (SMB) 3×3 team.
The former Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias (CSAV) star said he is delighted to be the only rookie to be handed a contract by the Beermen even if he will play for their 3×3 team for now.
“Sobrang happy po ako na napapirma ng San Miguel. To be honest, I did not expect it since ‘yung mga fellow rookies ay mas matatangkad at malalaki sa akin,” Manday told Watchmen Daily Journal.
“I am fine naman to start my PBA career with San Miguel Beer’s 3×3 team. Exposure rin ito para sa akin since mas magagamit ako dito unlike sa 5-on-5 since alam naman natin na loaded ang SMB lineup,” he added.
Manday, who won three NOPSSCEA championships and MVP awards with the Titans, was signed to a short-term deal by the Beermen last week after picking him in the sixth round of the PBA Season 46 Rookie Draft.
At the Beermen’s 3×3 team, Manday will team up with Raymond Austria, James Mangahas and Paul Gulfo. Ilonggo Boycie Zamar will serve as the head coach.
Manday further said that he is using his inclusion to the Beermen’s 3×3 team as a motivation to improve further and to possibly make it to SMB’s regular squad in the coming seasons.
“I treat this as a challenge para pagbutihin pa lalo ang laro ko,” said Manday. “I want to show the team management na hindi sila nagkamali sa pagbibigay sa akin ng opportunity to play for them, sa 3×3 team nila.”
Manday, who also played briefly for the Marinerong Pilipino in the PBA Developmental League, credited the Titans, its team owners Ramon Paolo Cruz, Paul Oliver Cruz and backer Rigpoint, for having a role in his development as a player.
“Hindi ko naman mararating ang pangarap ko na ito without the help of sir Ramon and sir Paul, as well as the CSAV family. They molded my talent and character kaya na-achieve ko ‘yung dream ko to play in the PBA,” Manday said./ASC, WDJ
