University of the Philippines Integrated School gunner Jordi Gomez de Liaño will not be joining his elder brothers Juan and Javi Gomez de Liaño at the UP Fighting Maroons camp.
Watchmen Daily Journal learned from a source yesterday that the 6-foot-5 sweet-shooting forward is looking to join the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers for college.
“Jordi to the UST is a done deal. He will formalize his commitment with the Growling Tigers in the coming days,” said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“At first, Jordi really wanted to play with his brothers in UP. But, after careful thinking and weighing all the options, he opted to go with UST as he saw himself flourishing there,” the source added.
The 18-year-old Jordi will be a great addition for the Growling Tigers for the upcoming UAAP season especially after losing several key players last year in the aftermath of the “Sorsogon training bubble” under then UST head coach Aldin Ayo.
Jordi has made a name for himself in the UAAP juniors basketball scene as an effective floor-spacer during his time with the UPIS Junior Fighting Maroons.
He was also selected by Gilas Pilipinas Youth coach Sandy Arespacochaga to compete for a final roster spot in the Philippines’ FIBA Under-17 Asian Championship lineup last year but the coronavirus disease 2019 has cancelled the international tournament./ASC, WDJ
