Capitol to adopt ICT apps developed by prov’l scholars

The Negros Occidental ICT Scholars presented to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson their ICT outputs, which the provincial government will make use of, as part of employing ICT to spur economic recovery in the province.

The scholars are fourth year students taking up BS Information Technology in STI West Negros University (WNU) in Bacolod City.

The ICT scholarship is a pioneering scholarship program of the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program Division through the directive of Lacson. It was conceptualized to help a total of 100 deserving ICT students finish their courses at STI WNU.

The scholars’ ICT outputs are intended to benefit the provincial government, in coordination with the Information and Communication Technology Division.

The five best systems conceptualized and developed by the group of scholars were Emergency Rescue and Response Operation System, Depot Procurement and Inventory System, Fire Alert Notification with Map Locator, Monitoring System of the Scholarship Program Division, and Document Tracking System of Negros Occidental.

The Emergency Rescue and Response Operation System was adjudged the best system that features online registration, user management, online rescue and response operation module, locator, and emergency report management.

The winning group received P10,000 cash through Lacson and Provincial Consultant Albee Benitez, while the other groups also received P2,000 each as consolation prizes.

Present in the activity held at the Negros Residences were Board Member Agustin Ernesto Bascon, chairman of the SP Committee on Education; Dr. Ryan Mark Molina, Executive Vice President of STI WNU; NOSP Head Karen Dinsay; and Javi Benitez, among others./WDJ
