Bacolod City Administrator Em Legaspi-Ang revealed plans of renovating the Bacolod Vendor’s Plaza following the recent dismantling of a drug den inside the premises which was conducted by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
According to Ang, the Vendor’s Plaza along with the Burgos, Central and Libertad public markets are due for rehabilitation.
However, plans for renovating the markets were hampered due to the COVID-19 pandemic which caused the works to be delayed as part of the budget was redirected to managing the pandemic.
Ang, however, emphasized that the projects are still a go, adding that the city would be able to start the rehabilitation works again.
She further added that the recent drug operation by PDEA in the Vendor’s Plaza means that the city’s law enforcement force is not stopping its operations against illegal drugs.
Earlier on Monday, PDEA operatives arrested eight individuals following the discovery of a drug den at the Vendor’s Plaza.
PDEA seized a total of 10 grams of suspected shabu valued at P45,000.
In response to the incident, Barangay 12 captain Elly Alcantara said they will demolish all illegal structures located below the market stalls, as they are being used as drug dens./DGB, WDJ
