Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is supporting the calls being made by supporters of former 3rd District Congressman Alfredo Benitez to run as senator in the upcoming 2022 elections.

The calls for Benitez to run for the senate surfaced last week in social media and instantly became viral among Negrense social media users.

According to Lacson, the Negrenses have always wanted a senator from the province and there is no better person that Benitez.

The governor added that it will always be a challenge to aspire for that position no matter what election year it will be.

The name of Benitez for senator has been floated during the 2019 elections but it did not materialize.

Benitez is currently working as Lacson’s consultant under the province’s Tourism and Investment. He is also the main author of the Sugarcane Industry Development Act which is aimed to save and protect the local sugar industry./DGB, WDJ
