Iloilo City may start COVID inoculation in May

The inoculation against coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19, in Iloilo City will likely start May this year.

According to Iloilo City Mayor P. Treñas, the vaccine will be available by that time.

Those who will be vaccinated are 18 years old and above and the priority sectors including those who are immunocompromised, medical frontliners, senior citizens, local government frontliners, among others.

On Sunday, January 10, after a legal review, the city mayor signed the multilateral agreement on behalf of the city for the purchase of AstraZeneca vaccine.

Other signatories to the deal were AstraZeneca, Republic of the Philippines represented by Sec. Carlito Galvez and the Department of Health represented by Sec. Francisco Duque.

Meanwhile, as the chairman of the League of Cities of the Philippines – Committee on Vaccine Procurement, together with the national government, Treñas assured that they will continue to talk to all the other pharmaceutical companies so that other cities can also have access to the vaccines./WDJ
