It’s a different take on the Department of Education’s “Brigada Eskwela.” Instead of the usual clean-up of schools, repainting and beautification programs, the Victorias Milling Company Foundation, Inc. (VMCFI) is providing preventive Covid-19 measures to 16 public schools in the local government units (LGUs) of the cities of Victorias and Cadiz and Manapla town in time for the opening of the school year this October.

VMC President Minnie Chua said that since the start of the pandemic, the company has donated alcohol to local government units, hospitals, jails, and other government agencies in Negros Occidental and Panay.

“With this commitment to fight Covid and help keep our communities safe and healthy, we decided that even with our Brigada Eskwela partnership with DepEd, we made sure to give alcohol along with thermal scanners, foot baths, and hand washing stations in select schools to help prevent the spread of the disease, particularly in poverty-stricken areas in our constituency,” Chua said.

This is going beyond enhancing quality education, but helping improve the well-being of the people in our communities, she added.

The anti-Covid equipment were turned over to DepEd supervisors in the three LGUs and will benefit over 19,000 students and teachers. Over 1,000 liters of alcohol have been distributed by VMC already along with bond papers for use in the Modular Distance Learning Print method.

The 16 beneficiary schools are the Burgos National High School, Hon. Pedro Villena Memorial Elementary School, Egido-Fernandez Elementary School, and Caduhaan Elementary School in Cadiz City; Begonia Elementary School, VICMICO Elementary School II, and Manapla National High School – Purisima Ext. in Manapla; and Victorias Elementary School, Daan Banwa Elementary School, Victorias Milling Elementary School, Victorias North Elementary School, Victorias National High School, Estado Elementary School, Barangay Estado National High School, J.L. Suarez Elementary School, and Victorias National High School – Alfonso Sta. Ana MHS Ext./WDJ
