Streets in Bacolod City remained almost empty for the third time on Sunday due to the implementation of Border Control Check-up Points. The city is also implementing temporary closure of the three major public markets – Burgos, Central, and Libertad – every Sunday for disinfection and as a preventive measure against the spread of the coronavirus. At least eight firefighters from the Talisay City Fire Station have tested positive for the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.

Bureau of Fire Protection-Western Visayas (BFP) director, Fire Senior Supt. Jerry Candido, said five of the firefighters are from the BFP, while the three belong to the Talisay City local government unit (LGU).

Candido said some of the firefighters underwent re-swabbing and the results came back still positive for Covid-19.

The fire station has been placed on lockdown since last week after the first reported three cases.

Seven of the firefighters have been placed on a quarantine facility while another is currently admitted in a hospital.

The lockdown has also caused the LGU to rely temporarily on the BFP stations in the cities of Bacolod and Silay should any emergency arise in the city.

Candido further stated the Talisay City Fire Station may not be able to operate until at least after the month of September.

“We are trying our best to resume the fire operation and emergency responses in the city,” Candido added./DGB, WDJ
