The Department of Health-Region VI (DOH-6) yesterday announced two new cases of the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, in the Western Visayas. The latest development brings the region’s total number of confirmed cases to four after a 56-year-old man in Bacolod City and 65-year-old man from Guimbal earlier tested positive.
According to DOH-6 director, Dr. Marlyn Convocar, the recent cases involve a 61-year-old female from Iloilo City and a 45-year-old male from Jamindan, Capiz, both of whom with a travel history to Manila.
Recently, DOH-6 Infectious Disease Cluster head, Dr. Jane Juanico, said the Bacolod City case, dubbed ‘Patient No. 1,’ is currently in an “improved health condition.”
She added, ‘Patient No. 1’ still has to undergo another round of tests to verify whether he is still positive or negative for Covid-19. Once tests are complete and the patient tests negative, he will be discharged from the hospital.
Meanwhile, the second patient reported no travel history but DOH-6 officials suspect he may have contracted the virus from relatives who had recently visited Japan and were asymptomatic.
In addition, the Guimbal town government conducted contact tracing while the patient’s family were placed on home quarantine./WDJ
