NorthPort Batang Pier team owner, 1-Pacman Party-list Rep. Mikee Romero, affirmed there are no plans to trade center Christian Standhardinger.
“Bakit mo naman ite-trade (Why would we trade him)?” the legislator said during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Annual Awards, which took place earlier this month at the Manila Hotel. “Hindi totoo ‘yun (It’s not true).”
“Siya ang face ng team, si Christian (Christian is the face of the team),” he added. “He will remain as the face of NorthPort Batang Pier.”
Romero said he is optimistic about the team chances in the upcoming 2020 PBA Philippine Cup.
“Mukhang maganda yung chance namin (It looks like our chances are good),” the legislator noted. “Any team, lalo na pag all-Filipino, na may big man, malaking bagay (For any team, especially in the Philippine Cup, to have a big man is a big deal).”
“Problema lang namin, maraming na-injure, but the team is trying its best to compete (Our problem is we have a lot of injured player but the team will try their best to compete),” he added.
Despite the injuries, Romero looks forward to the upcoming season with the expected return of point guard Robert Bolick.
“Robert was not with us when we reached the semis last time so, hopefully, we can replicate [it],” the team owner said. “Two times pa lang kami nakakapag-semfinals dito sa PBA-napakahirap talaga (We’ve made it to the semifinals twice in the PBA-It’s very difficult).”/ASC, WDJ
