Ilongga boxer continues training
By Adrian Stewart Co
After earlier clinching a spot in the upcoming Summer Olympics, which are scheduled to take place in Tokyo later this year, Ilongga boxer Irish Magno is back in training.
“Balik training ulit po (I’ve returned to training),” the boxer told the Philippine News Agency. “Talagang napakasaya ko po at proud matapos mag-qualify (I was so happy and proud to qualify for the Olympics).”
She earned her spot after winning the women’s flyweight title at the recent Asia/Oceania Olympic boxing qualifying tournament over Sumaiya Qosimova of Tajikistan.
The Iloilo City native also expressed optimism for her fellow Filipino boxers who can still qualify.
“May pag-asa pa naman si Nesh at Carlo (Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam can both still qualify),” Magno pointed out. “Balik ensayo rin si Nesh at nakarating na rin po dito sa Baguio (Nesh is going back to training and she has already arrived in Baguio City).”/ASC, WDJ
