Due to ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, Negros Occidental provincial tourism officer, Dr. Jennylind Cordero, yesterday confirmed, provincial officials, led by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, formally cancelled this year’s Panaad sa Negros Festival.
The decision came after the governor met with the Association of Chief Executives in Talisay City.
“We are all excited for Panaad sa Negros Festival 2020; however, the health and safety of our fellow Negrenses are our top priority,” festival organizers posted on social media. “We regret to inform everyone that this year’s Panaad sa Negros Festival is cancelled.”
“We promise to bring you the best Panaad sa Negros Festival in the future,” they added. “For now, stay healthy and keep safe everyone!”
Meanwhile, after earlier noting that festival preparations were about 80 percent complete with procurements already processed, the provincial official assured the P20 million set aside for the event will be returned to the provincial budget.
This year’s Panaad sa Negros Festival was scheduled to take place from April 20 to 26./DGB, WDJ
