In response to Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson issuing an executive order closing provincial borders, along with local ports and airports, amid ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) director, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, explained, “This is not a lockdown, boundary closure only.”
The law enforcement official has since deployed police officers to ensure non-resident vehicles are barred entry.
In addition, he also called on local government units to provide alcohol and sanitizers for officers at checkpoints.
“Most importantly, we are asking [local government units] to provide face masks to the PNP (Philippine National Police) personnel who are conducting checkpoints,” Baleros emphasized.
He also instructed station police chiefs to identify the borders of their respective localities./DGB, WDJ
