‘Love triangle’ believed to be a motive

A tricycle driver was shot dead over the weekend by riding-in-tandem suspects in Santa Barbara’s Barangay Pal-agon. Authorities identified the fatality as 54-year-old Victorino Soquitoso of Pavia’s Barangay Amparo.
According to Santa Barbara Municipal Police Station chief, Police Major Raymond Celoso, the incident occurred at 6:40 p.m. on Saturday when the victim was shot several times while driving his tricycle. He later died at the Western Visayas Sanitarium.
Four empty shells from a caliber .45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene.
He noted, prior to the incident, Soquitoso received a phone call at home and later left to the location of the incident where the suspects were reportedly waiting for him.
“Kakilala ng biktima ang mga suspects kasi tinawagan siya para makaalis sa kanilang bahay (The victim and the suspects knew each other since they called and his left his home),” the police official explained.
Celoso explained, they have the suspects in custody but have refused to identify them due to the ongoing investigation.
“Love triangle ang sinusundan natin pero, ang sabi ng mga pamilya ng biktima wala sila relasyon ng babae at magkaibigan lang sila (We believe the incident occurred because of a love triangle but, after speaking with the victim’s family, there was no relationship with the woman involved, they were just friends),” he noted. “Baka napagkamalan na may relasyon sila (Perhaps they failed at having a relationship).”
In response, Iloilo Police Provincial Office director, Police Colonel Paul Kenneth Lucas, directed police chiefs to conduct checkpoints on motorcycles./WDJ
