Visiting British national also being monitored

Toboso Mayor Richard Jaojoco yesterday confirmed a councilor in his locality was placed under monitoring for the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19. In a phone patch interview, the mayor refused to identify the councilor but noted the local official exhibited “flu-like symptoms.”
The councilor first sought treatment at a private hospital in Bacolod City but was later referred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Based on the town official’s travel history, they recently attended the Philippine Councilors League National Congress in Metro Manila, which was same event attended by the municipal councilor from Tayasan, Negros Oriental who has tested positive for Covid-19.
“The councilor developed a fever two days after he returned from Manila,” Jaojoco said. “[They] have had a fever for at least a week now and complains of shortness of breath.”
The mayor pointed out, after the town official attended the recent town council session, they disinfected the session hall, along with two barangays and schools visited by the councilor.
Meanwhile, town council sessions have also been suspended for two weeks, while the other councilors were requested to go on quarantine.
Jaojoco added, they suspended classes for daycare centers as of March 9, while they are also asking the Department of Education if they could also declare an early end to the school year.
Aside from the town official, the mayor said they are monitoring a British national who arrived in town earlier this month.
Jaojoco said the foreigner has been brought to a private hospital in Bacolod City and it is up to the Department of Health to declare the patient as “under monitoring” or “under investigation.”/DGB, WDJ
