The local ferry industry has begun feeling the brunt of the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19. 2GO Group Incorporated Associate Vice President for Marketing Blessie Cruz said, over the past few weeks, they have noticed a drop in passenger volume. In addition, freight services have been affected as some of the products they ship originate from or were manufactured in China.
“There has been a slow down when it comes to the take up of the travel, we admit it,” she said.
However, Cruz said their company will continue to operate, calling the firm, a “public service company.”
In terms of precautionary measures, she said 2GO vessels regularly make front office announcements reminding passengers to practice proper hygiene such as regularly washing their hands.
The ferry company also installed alcohol and sanitation liquid dispensers at all customer attach points on their vessels, along with around the clock cleaning.
Screening at ports is also being strictly carried out and the passenger temperatures are being taken prior to boarding.
In the unlikely event a patient under investigation boards their vessel, Cruz said their vessels each have quarantine zones and the patient in question will immediately be sequestered.
Their vessels’ medical teams are also fully-prepared to attend to any patient placed in quarantine./DGB, WDJ
