Among ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas formally cancelled this year’s Paraw Regatta Festival. The event was originally scheduled from February 23 to March 1, then later rescheduled to run from April 1 to 5, until it was postponed again earlier this week.
While there was a suggestion to hold the event in November, the mayor explained weather conditions would not be ideal.
Meanwhile, the mayor also issued an executive order indefinitely suspending all public gatherings in the city. The directive amends an earlier order that suspended such events between February and March.
“It is imperative that the city government suspend all major gatherings in the city due to Covid-19,” the order stated.
Gatherings include barangay fiestas, school activities, rallies, and the like./WDJ
