The inmate who escaped from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) office last week in Iloilo City’s Mandurriao district was recaptured yesterday in Leon’s Barangay Agta. Authorities identified the fugitive as 40-year-old Aldren Balintong of Santa Barbara’s Barangay Cadagmayan, who was undergoing an interrogation at the CIDG office last Friday when he escaped through a bathroom window.
He was found to be hiding at the home of his sister-in-law Teresita Cabanero.
CIDG-Iloilo chief Police Major James Dogao explained they were tipped off to Balintong’s whereabouts and said they have been in contact with a detention facility in Taguig City where he was previously jailed in order to verify if he has any pending cases.
Balintong, who said the escape was made because he did not want to be jailed, refused to reveal who removed his handcuffs and how he reached Leon.
He was initially arrested on three counts of rape and will be remitted to the Mandurriao Police Station./WDJ
