After the Negros Occidental Provincial Board passed a resolution of no objection during their regular session earlier this week, which allowed for 300 eucalyptus trees inside the Panaad Park and Stadium to be cut down, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, who presides over the local legislative body, expressed support for the move.
“Everytime we celebrate the Panaad sa Negros Festival, parking space is always a problem,” the vice governor said. “The space is needed for development.”
During the session, provincial administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, briefed the board on the offers made by private contractors to cut down the trees free of charge.
“The identified trees are located in areas reserved for our parking spaces,” the provincial official explained. “The trees were already identified and marked.”
He added, “[The selected contractor] will shoulder the labor costs for cutting down the trees and guarantee it will be done by experienced cutters.”/DGB, WDJ
