Fifteen were injured after two vans crashed into each other on Tuesday night in Barangay Hibao-an, located in Iloilo City’s Mandurriao district.
According to Mandurriao Police Station traffic investigator, Police Staff Sergeant Jessie Cabial, a passenger van driven by 39-year-old Ramy Cajilig of Leon’s Barangay Talacuan was struck by a delivery van driven by 22-year-old Erwin Bongol of Ligao City, Albay.
The driver of the delivery van told authorities he was not familiar with the area and was unaware he was approaching a crossing. He was also said to be asleep at the wheel when the incident occurred.
Bongol is currently detained at the Mandurriao Police Station and faces reckless imprudence charges.
Meanwhile, the injured are currently being treated at Western Visayas Medical Center, Medical City Hospital, and Aleosan District Hospital.
However, one passenger, 47-year-old Ramonito Cangas of Leon’s Barangay Barasan, refused treatment.
Police are also verifying if two other passengers were being treated at a hospital./WDJ
