UAAP Volleyball Control Committee President Noreen Go announced the 82nd UAAP volleyball season, which begins tomorrow, March 3, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, will see the introduction of a video challenge system.
“We will pattern the challenge system after the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games),” she explained. “We’re still finalizing all the details and we will release a memorandum to all schools, the people involved, and the media as well.”
UAAP President Emmanuel Fernandez echoed the sentiment, noting, “During the SEA Games, we saw the challenges that were implemented.”
“We will also implement the challenge system this year,” the UAAP official added.
Earlier this week, the UAAP announced the men’s and women’s teams of University of the East and Far Eastern University will battle in the opener.
“With the success of the men’s volleyball team in the last SEA Games, it’s about time we put men’s volleyball side-by-side with women’s volleyball,” Fernandez said.
This season, Tuesday games will include one men’s and one women’s match; while Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday matches will alternate between both sides.
Aside from the SM Mall of Asia Arena, matches will also be played at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City./ASC, WDJ
