Davao Occidental ousts Bicol
The Davao Occidental Tigers advanced to the 2019/2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup semifinals following their 64-56 overtime win over the Bicol Volcanoes last Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial College Petro Gazz Arena in Davao City.
Free throws by the Volcanoes pushed the game into overtime, where Davao Occidental surged to a 60-56 advantage on a layup by Negrense power forward Mark Yee and two free throws from Richard Albo. Bicol was unable to offer a response and the Tigers continued to widen their lead on free throw conversions from Emman Calo and June Mocon.
Bonifacio Custodio spearheaded the victory with 14 points, while Jerwin Gaco chipped in 10 markers and eight rebounds, and Calo and Ilonggo small forward Billy Ray Robles each added nine points.
Despite the loss, Jeffrey Ryan Ongteco tallied 16 points and seven rebounds for Bicol, while Alwyn Alday added 15 markers and nine boards.
Meanwhile, the Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines eliminated the Batangas City Athletics with a 69-52 win./ASC, WDJ
