Teen dies while being treated
A man believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs allegedly stabbed a Grade 10 student yesterday morning outside a maritime school located at Purok San Sebastian in Bacolod City’s Barangay Sum-ag. Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Ray Jan Carmelotes, a resident of Purok AC Yulo in the said barangay.
Bacolod City Police Office spokesperson, Police Lt. Colonel Ariel Pico, said, based on initial investigations carried out by members of Police Station 9 (PS9), Carmelotes was loitering around outside the school when he stabbed a 16-year-old minor, who police requested not to identify.
School security and patrolling PS9 members immediately arrested the suspect while bystanders rushed the victim to the hospital, who sustained multiple stab wounds across his body.
When interviewed by local media inside the PS9 detention facility, Carmelotes was unable to respond clearly to questions and claimed he was “bothered.” However, when asked if he was using illegal drugs, the suspect admitted to using shabu.
The assailant faces murder charges as the victim eventually succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment at a hospital in Bacolod City.
The suspect is also due to undergo drug testing at the provincial crime laboratory./DGB, WDJ
