Law enforcement officials banned a “high-ranking” official of the New People’s Army (NPA) on Saturday after serving two arrest warrants in Tubungan’s Barangay Zone 1. According to Tubungan Municipal Police Station chief, Police Lt. Colonel Jose Romel Samson, 49-year-old Moncino ‘Ka Dana’ Tacaisan of the town’s Barangay Igtuble surrendered peacefully.
Arrested on charges related to a 2017 murder case, along with acts of lasciviousness, the arrested NPA official was said to be the Southern Front Komiteng Rehiyon Panay-Sibat Platoon squad leader.
While bail for the act of lasciviousness was set at P12,000, no bail was set for the murder charges.
According to Philippine Army 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson, Army Captain Cenon Pancito III, Tacaisan was on their list of NPA officials operating in Tubungan and other nearby towns in Iloilo.
The army official said cooperation by local government officials is key and appealed for local elected officials to provide assistance to the police and military.
Meanwhile, the suspect admitted to being associated with the NPA but denied the charges filed against him./WDJ
