The Bacolod Tay Tung High School women’s volleyball team will face Cebu-based sides this weekend during the Cebu-Bacolod Goodwill Games at Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in Mandaue City, Cebu. The games will serve as a warm up for Tay Tung ahead of the upcoming 2020 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet.
The Tay Tung roster will be comprised of team captain Shane Carmona, Alyssa Bertolano, Joan Marie Monares, Rhean Hebraica Almendralejo, Kiesha Dazzie Bedonia, Gwen Bañas, Katherine Shaine Cortez, Julianne Monares, Nicolei Galvan, Alijah Ysulan, alongside Julianah Severino of the St. John’s Institute and Calvary Baptist Academy of Pontevedra athlete Myrtle Escanlar.
The Bacolod City-based school is set to compete against SHS-AdC Team A and B, the University of San Jose–Recoletos, and the University of San Carlos.
“This tournament is an opportunity to determine the readiness of the team,” said Tay Tung team manager Jose Montalbo. “[It is] also for the team to experience playing a regular game again, especially with the WVRAA Meet being delayed.”
Earlier this month, the Department of Education-Region VI tentatively scheduled the 2020 WVRAA Meet from March 21 to 28 in Makato, Aklan. The event was initially set to run from February 15 to 22 but was postponed due to ongoing concerns surrounding the 2019 novel coronavirus./ASC, WDJ
