Suyac Island residents want ferry accreditation expedited

Residents of Suyac Island, which is located within the jurisdiction of Sagay City and home to a mangrove eco-park, are seeking accreditation for the Sagay Ferry Boat Association be expedited by the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina).
According to Suyac Island Eco-Tourist Attendants Association President Noli Burlan, tourist arrivals halted after 31 people died last year when their boats capsized while traveling between Guimaras and Iloilo. He added, the Philippine Coast Guard has since barred their boats from operating.
Suyac Island, which is a 15-minute boat ride from the city’s Barangay Old Sagay, typically sees 500 tourists every week./DGB, WDJ
