Kaya FC-Iloilo opened their 2020 AFC Cup group stage with a 2-0 win over 2019 Myanmar National League champions Shan United yesterday afternoon at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
The Iloilo City-based club depended on late goals to come away with the three points.
After Shan United midfielder Djawa Maximum brought down Kaya midfielder Arnel Amita in the penalty area, Ilonggo striker Jovin Bedic successfully converted a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead.
Striker Eric Giganto then doubled the lead in the 85th minute.
“We’ve been preparing for almost five weeks,” said said Kaya Iloilo head coach Oliver Colina. “We were very hungry heading into this game.”
