The five inmates who escaped last week from a detention facility in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental are back in jail after spending several days on the run. Two of the prisoners, 39-year-old Janly Callao and 25-year-old Ronie Flores, surrendered to authorities after successful negotiations with the prisoners’ families; while the three others, 24-year-old Joseph Casido, 30-year-old Julan Paculanang, and 49-year-old Lito Pedro, were re-arrested in a joint operation by tracker teams from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and Tayasan Municipal Police Station.
Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO) director, Police Colonel Julian Entoma, said the two who surrendered were trapped for several days between Manjuyod and Tayasan.
The NOrPPO official added, Callao and Flores told police the boundary was surrounded by members of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit and, since they were not able to leave without getting spotted, they were not able to get food.
Following the incident, the five were separated. Some were sent to the Bais City Jail and the others to the Dumaguete City District Jail.
Last week, the five detainees escaped after destroying the wall of Cell No. 2 at the BJMP-Manjuyod jail facility. Authorities only made the discovery when personnel conducted a morning head count./DGB, WDJ
