Following the surprise death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, tributes from the local basketball community poured out across social media.
“You were one of the reasons I played the sport, Kobe,” wrote Ilonggo guard Kiefer Ravena. “You are the reason why I want to be great.” Meanwhile, Senator Manny Pacquaio, who founded the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, tweeted: “The world lost a legend today but the impact and legacy he leaves behind will last forever!”
In addition, during an interview with CNN Philippines, Negrense forward Joe Devance said, “We will continue to live on with your legacy.”
He added, “Long live Kobe!”
Bryant, who retired from the sport in 2016, died after the helicopter he was riding crashed. A total nine people were on board, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
“More than basketball, He was a father,” wrote Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. “My sincerest condolences to the Bryant family, may God give you strength, peace, and comfort in these tough times.”
